Specially made for the hunter. The poll is forged thinner than normal and gently rounded and burnished to a Flay Poll to be used when skinning an animal. You pull the hide with one hand at the same time you hit with the Flay Poll of the axe between the hide and the flesh; and stroke by stroke the hide comes off.
The axe is good for chopping, in wood as well as meat. The grip of the handle has circular grooves which gives a steady grip even if your hands are wet or sticky. This axe has received, as the first and only axe in Sweden, a design award from The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design.
The axe has a 3 1/4" face and a 19" hickory handle and the head weighs 1 1/2 lb. It comes with a grain-leather sheath.
Why is the axe head labeled with two letters?
The letters stands for the smith’s initials. When the blacksmith is pleased with his/her craftsmanship and thinks that the axe is well made, he/she accepts the axe with his/her initials. Thanks to the initials you can always go back and see who the person is who has made the axe.
IMPORTANT: The letters shown in this product listing are not guaranteed to be the smith of the axe that will ship. We receive a variety of axes from Gransfors Bruks. Please reach out if you are looking for a specific smith and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
NOTE: Anyone removing a sheath from the Gränsfors Bruk axe must replace it gently by first feeding the heel of the cutting edge into the base of the sheath, (there is that little pocket at the bottom of the sheath), followed by feeding the top portion of the cutting edge into the top of the sheath. This should prevent a sheath from being damaged. A cut sheath is usually damaged by someone trying to simultaneously feed the whole edge into the sheath at once or wiggling it in spite of feeling some resistance.
The axes are VERY sharp and will readily cut a sheath that is not put on with care. If it doesn't, you are lucky. If and when such damage occurs replacement sheaths are available for purchase.
