Gransfors Bruks 35.5-Inch American Felling Axe

The Gränsfors American Felling Axe is a professional axe for tradtiional forest work. Style 434-2 is designed to be ideal for felling very large trees, thanks to its long, broad edge of 11.5 cm. The axe is forged to a curved bit, making it suitable for cutting into fresh, resinous wood such as spruce or pine. The heavy head and long handle also give considerable power to the cut. The axe is almost twice as heavy as the Scandinavian Forest Axe.
  • Length with handle: 90 cm with curved handle (35.5 inches)
  • Weight: 2,2 kg (4.8 pounds)
  • Sheath in vegetable-tanned leather
  • 11.5 cm edge (4.5 inches)
NOTE: Anyone removing a sheath from the Gränsfors Bruk axe must replace it gently by first feeding the heel of the cutting edge into the base of the sheath, (there is that little pocket at the bottom of the sheath), followed
by feeding the top portion of the cutting edge into the top of the sheath.  This should prevent a sheath from being damaged.  A cut sheath is usually damaged by someone trying to simultaneously feed the whole edge into the
sheath at once or wiggling it in spite of feeling some resistance.  The axes are VERY sharp and will readily cut a sheath that is not put on with care.  If it doesn't, you are lucky.  If and when such damage occurs replacement sheaths are available for purchase.
